Major cities

  • Nanning: the capital, the commercial centre
  • Guilin: the tourism centre, which also focuses on high-tech industry
  • Beihai: an open coastal city. The term "Open coastal city" refers to the 14 cities which were first opened to the outside world. These cities were given preferential treatment when the opening up-drive began in the early 80’s. Beihai is a port city, that focuses on tourism and aquaculture.
  • Wuzhou: an inland port city
  • Liuzhou: the industrial centre
  • Fangchenggang: a small city, but the major port in Guangxi, and the 3rd largest port in South China
